Musings of an Unemployed Customer Support Engineer

Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself

Taken in 2021 – moving out of our old office at WeWork.

Hello! My name is Shireen Garcia, and I am currently an unemployed Customer Support Engineer. I have also worn a few other hats as Head of Support, Customer Support, and Back-End Developer. The last time I wrote here, I was an unemployed aspiring Junior Full Stack Developer who had recently graduated from The Iron Yard. Yay for progress?

I decided to relaunch my blog while I am working on updating my portfolio. It serves two purposes:

  1. The portfolio gets updated! The most recent thing on there is a Ruby project from a few years ago. I am so embarrassed.
  2. I am a huge advocate for good documentation, and I don’t have access to examples of the work that I used to do. If you understand your tech, you can explain it.

I guess I have a third reason? The job hunt is going as badly as I expected it to go. I have filled out about 200 applications. This has led to a handful of phone screens, a few interviews, some take-home assignments… but still no job. I know that there are many people in the same boat as I am… and I want to help.

Stay tuned for more!
