“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
– Walt Disney
I had a nice break last week. Mom and I had to go to Southern California for a funeral. I was still waiting to hear the results of a couple of phone screens, so I took my laptop and my job hunt notebook with me. I figured that I would have time to send out more applications, do phone screens, and maybe even interviews.
I found out that I wouldn’t be progressing to the next round of interviews while I was making a pit stop over in Barstow. I had done a phone screen right before I left for California. I wrote the previous entry in here after we had checked into the hotel. Then, I put my laptop away. The plans about job hunting and stuff? Fuck it. Let me enjoy family time.
My Dad decided that he wanted to go to Disneyland and asked me if I wanted to go along… I said, sure? If I sound hesitant, it was because he was asking me this right before the burial. He said that was his early Father’s Day present.
The next day at Disneyland, I immediately started dragging him towards Galaxy’s Edge to see the Star Wars stuff. The last time I had been to Disney was in 2019 before Galaxy’s Edge was even built!
Dad said that spending the day with me was his Father’s Day present… he hadn’t seen me in a while and he missed me. I told him that I had been planning on going home last year. But then I got laid off and couldn’t afford to.
And that’s how I ended up crying at Disneyland.
Things have been incredibly stressful as of late. Life, job hunt, general existence. I hate the uncertainty of it all. But I had a good day making new memories with my Daddy. And that’s the best thing in the world.
